Chishui Is China’s Best Kept Secret for All Nature Lovers

Chishui scenic area is a famous China’s off the beaten path destination and national scenic region located in Chishui city, northwest of Guizhou Province. This area shows China’s nature at its best. The region features creaks, green forests, waterfalls, seas of bamboo and the amazing Danxia land formation.

Chishui in Chinese means red water. The area got its name from the red sandstones covering the landscape. Additionally, there is a number of rare wild animals you can see. For example bears, tigers, pards, antelopes and macaques. On top of that Alsophila spinulosa or living fossil can be seen almost everywhere in this area. However, the most attractive place here are the Shizhangdong waterfalls.

The Shizhangdong Waterfalls

These are China’s second largest waterfalls after the Huangguoshan which is one meter longer. The Shizhangdong waterfalls are 76 meters high and 80 meters wide with water falling into a semicircular pool with thunder. On top of having a spectacular setting the falls also have stunning spinulose tree ferns. These make the area even more scenic and beautiful.

On top of these magnificent waterfalls, there are over four thousand waterfalls scattered in the surroundings. The Sidonggou Nature Park

In addition to the Shizhanegdong, Chishui also boasts of a nature park – the Sidonggou. The park is located a few kilometers from Chishui city and with it comes the Chishui National Nature Reserve. The nature park also has Jurassic ferns and a number of wild animals. With the green, unexploited natural vegetation, this area is ideal for nature lovers and people who want to learn more about the rich Chinese natural reserve.

On top of the above attractions Chishui also boasts of a number of other places which include Wuzhufeng also known as five pillar peak scenic spot, Sidong Creek, Bamboo Sea National Forest Park, Yangjiayan, the ancient town of Bing’an, Swallow Rock National forest park, China’s Jurassic Park and the site where it is believed that the Red Army crossed the famous Chishui River four times.

This is the largest living environment of alsophilia spinulosa in the entire world. On top of that, the Danxia land formations found in this area have also been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List making it one of the best places to visit in the world.

Besides the environmental attractions, there is the annual Gizhou prominent wine and liquor festival which takes place in Shizhangdong of Chishui City, in Zunyi City and in Maotai town in Renhuai City in July and August. During this festival tourists as well as the locals get a rare opportunity to taste famous liquors and wines.
