TOURISM IN GERMANY IS STILL BELOW THE PRE-CORONA LEVEL

Germany's accommodation providers recorded 49.5 million overnight stays by domestic and foreign guests in June 2023, a 1.1 percent increase compared to June 2022, according to the Federal Statistical Office's preliminary findings. In May 2023, the pre-corona level was surpassed by 5.6 percent compared to May 2019. However, in June 2023, overnight stays decreased by 2.2 percent compared to June 2019.

The number of foreign guests is increasing

In June 2023, there was a slight decrease of 1.1 percent in the number of overnights stays by domestic guests, totaling 42.0 million. This is 1.0 percent less than overnight stays in June 2019. On the other hand, the number of overnight stays by foreign guests increased by 15.7 percent, reaching 7.5 million compared to the same month last year. However, this still falls short by 8.7 percent compared to the pre-crisis level from June 2019.
