Sicily has prepared a special attraction for all its visitors – especially those interested in vintage trains. From July to September travelers will have a chance to voyage along the most picturesque routes of the region on board 18 historical trains.

The Culture Route in Sicily was launched at the beginning of July. The initiative had been promoted by regional tourism in collaboration with la Fondazione Ferrovie dello Stato and Trenitalia.

The aim is to allow tourists and Sicilians to visit historical, artistic and natural places along the cultural routes.

Eighteen historical trains will ride on three routes: the Treno del Barocco, dei Templi and del Mito. The first route will go pass the edge of the mythical ‘Centoporte’ with carriages from 1930s driven by a vintage diesel locomotive D445.

Passengers will also discover the Val di Noto, including the landscape and fascinating heritage site – starting with Syracuse, through Donnafugata, Comiso, Scicli, Ragusa, Noto to Modica.

Passengers who wish to discover the archaeological park will be transported by the vintage Aln 668 trains. 1600 will travel between Greek temples and lush gardens of Kolymbethra.

Along the Ionian coast, between the sea and Mount Etna from Catania to Taormina, the train type 1959 of the Treno del Mito will operate.
