Syria has taken an important step to boost tourism and stimulate travel by announcing the launch of an electronic visa system. Starting from May 1st, 2024, this e-visa system aims to simplify the visa process for visitors to Syria, making it a more attractive destination for travelers worldwide.

The decision to adopt this new system is part of the country's efforts to overcome tourism challenges and encourage more tourists to visit Syria.

The e-visa system is a platform that allows travelers to apply for a visa easily and electronically without the need to visit the Syrian embassy. The application process can be completed within a few minutes, and the visa can be obtained within 72 hours.

Syrian Tourism Minister Mohammed Rami Martini explained that the purpose of launching the electronic visa system is to overcome the challenges faced by Syrian tourism, particularly in countries with no Syrian embassies or consulates. He expressed optimism that this new system will significantly increase the number of tourists coming to Syria, positively impacting the national economy.

The e-Visa system provides flexible payment options for travelers, including electronic payments via credit or debit card or cash upon arrival at border crossings.

To obtain an e-Visa, travelers must provide:

The passport is valid for at least six months from the planned entry into Syria. A recent passport-size photograph. Return flight ticket. Proof of accommodation in Syria (e.g., hotel booking or invitation from a friend or relative). Travel insurance (valid during the period of stay in Syria). Visa application fees (vary depending on the visa type and nationality of the applicant).

Types of Visas

The e-Visa system provides different types of visas, including:

  • Tourist visa: 30 days (extendable)
  • Work visa: 90 days (extendable)
  • Visit visa: 90 days (extendable)
  • Transit visa: for 48 hours.
