Hilton????

I read with some surprise this article regarding the LV Hilton.

Whilst it was the largest hotel in the world in 1969, it has been surpassed many times over by the mega resorts now prominent on the strip. The largest hotel in the world is still the MGM (5,000+), however if you are looking at "one site" with numerous towers etc.. you would have to consider the Sands Las Vegas which includes the Venetian and the Palazzo. They have a combined rooms of 7,000+

Your report stating the size of convention area as being one of the largest in the US, is questionable!! The Venetian, Mandalay Bay, & MGM in LV and the many others in Chicago, NYC & Florida would far exceed this area.

I don't object to the comments regarding the "size" of the sign. However, the sign is "dated" and in need of a facelift.

To the LV Hilton's credit. One should remember that this venue was the home for Elvis and the many performers that entertained Las Vegas.

The owners of the Hilton (Colony Capital) are in severe financial trouble, being the major partner in the privatisation of the Station casino group.

In completion, the Las Vegas casino market in 2009 is in for a major restructuring, well beyond the estimations of the pundits.

I wish them well.
