BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA OFFERS NOT ONLY WATER RAFTING TOURS

Water rafting, hiking and fishing are among the popular activities among tourists visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina, a small country on the Balkan Peninsula.

Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) offers exciting recreational activities that are available to make one’s holiday in Balkan fun and enjoyable. With a vast area of the land covered by forests, mountains and lakes, it is a perfect destination for adventure lovers seeking opportunity for water rafting, hiking, mountain climbing, fishing among others.

Water rafting is growing in popularity in the country and the river Neretva is the right place to start one’s rafting adventures. The river is approximately 220 kilometers long and extends to Croatia. The upper part of the river is well known for cold but pure water.

Trekking the forest trails in Bosnia is very exciting since half of the land is covered by forests. Hikers can also explore the Alps of Darian, which are very extensive up to the Alps of Julian. To contrast the natural green scenery there are numerous rock-covered mountains, which offer a great opportunity for mountaineering. The spring and autumn seasons are the ideal times to visit the country as summers are usually hot and winters cold.

Furthermore, there are a number of places where one can go for mountain biking such as in the Mediterranean region, within Prenj as well as the Alphine. Here one can enjoy bird watching of more than 120 different bird species, owls, and eagles included. Tourists can get a peek of wolf, brown bear, wildcat and lynx while within the region, which are rare animal species to be found in Europe.

Fishing in BiH is also very exciting but is undertaken in seasons where several types of fishing are carried out. Along the streams of the mountains and coastline, fly-fishing is a dominant activity. Excellent places to perform fly fishing are the upper northern division and western division of the nation. The leading river is Pliva, which is ranked highest in the list with others like Una, Sanica, Unac, Ribnik also offering good sites for fishing.

When traveling around Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is important to remember that unexploded mines can be found in some areas especially in the countryside and mountains that are isolated. All tourists are advised to be very cautious while visiting these areas and be accompanied by local guides. Visitors are also advised to obtain travel insurance for safety reasons.
