Tunisia hopes to welcome 9 million tourists by the end of the current tourist season, it was reported last week by the Tunisian Ministry of Tourism.

According to René Trabelsi, the Minister of Tourism, this new objective is based on the current good performance recorded by the Tunisian tourism sector, despite the difficulties of the national company Tunisair. This performance is mainly due to the improvement in the country's security climate, following the 2015 terrorist attacks that had slowed down the sector's activities.

During the first four months of 2019, Tunisia has already welcomed more than 2.2 million tourists, which represents an 18% increase compared to the same period in 2018. This performance was mainly driven by European tourists, whose arrivals increased by 22% until the end of March, with the British leading (+140%) followed by the French (+23%) and the Dutch (+13%).

For this year, the country expects to receive nearly one million French out of the nine million tourists expected, 390,000 Germans and 640,000 Russians.

As a reminder, by 2018, the country had already attained a record number of 8 million tourists, an increase of 14.28% compared to the previous year.
