GERMAN HOTELS WELCOMED 1% MORE GUESTS IN NOVEMBER

German accommodation providers recorded 1% more domestic tourists staying overnight and 5% more foreign guests. Overall however the number of international overnight guests decreased by 4% in 2009.

 

 

 

According to preliminary results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), in November German accommodation providers recorded 22.6 million overnight stays, which is 1% more than in November 2008. The figures refer to facilities with nine or more beds and to campsites. Out of the total number 19.1 million guests were domestic visitors (+1%) and 3.5 million were foreign tourists (+ 5%), reported Touristikpresse.net.

For German hotels the number of stays in November remained almost the same as in the previous year – 14.9 million. Medical and wellness providing accommodation welcomed 2% more guests (in total 3.9 million). The greatest increase of 3% was recorded among various holiday resorts, campsites, holiday homes and apartment providers. In total 3.8 million guests stayed over night in these accommodation facilities.

Between January and November last year, the total number of guests was 347.4 million, which is approximately the same as in 2008. Among the guests were 296.3 million German tourists (no change over the previous year) and 51.1 million foreigners which means a decrease of 4%.
