Croatia is eagerly working on the return of foreign tourists. Currently, in view of the Corona pandemic, more safety is to be advertised - and free rapid tests.

Nevertheless, the Croatian government would like to welcome tourists back as soon as possible - preferably as early as Whitsun. A program specially initiated for this purpose, "Safe Stay in Croatia," is intended to help.

The label was introduced by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports for hotels and tourist accommodations that implement health and hygiene standards. It is intended to guarantee foreign tourists special safety.

Vacationers are also to be offered free rapid tests: "We plan to set up tourist test spots where we would offer both antigen and PCR rapid tests," explained Croatian Tourism Minister Nikolina Brnjac. Nevertheless, Croatia wants to follow Europe's regulations. Apparently, there are also already reservations for Easter, which the minister welcomes.

Croatia Heavily Dependent on Tourism

The importance of tourism for Croatia is shown by the figures from recent years: according to the national tourism association, around 21 million vacationers visited the country on the Adriatic Sea in 2019. A large proportion of them came from Germany. Tourism accounted for 18.4 percent of gross domestic product, putting it well ahead of other European countries.
