Czechia confirmed its position as a top European travel destination. It posted another year of strong growth in 2025. Official statistics show the country welcomed nearly 23.6 million guests in accommodations like hotels and guesthouses. These visitors booked 59.1 million overnight stays which marks an increase in both arrivals and nights compared to 2024.
These numbers show a full recovery that exceeds the pre-pandemic levels. Tourist numbers rose by 1.6 million compared to 2019. Overnight stays climbed by 2.1 million against that same year. Czechia stands out among European nations. It has turned the post-pandemic rebound into long-term expansion.
Strong Growth from International Markets
Foreign visitors drove this upward trend. International arrivals totaled around 10.9 million. This is a 4.1% increase year-on-year. Their overnight stays grew even faster at 5.0% and reached 26.8 million nights. This gap highlights a positive shift. Tourists from abroad stay longer on average. They spend more on accommodation, dining, and attractions.
Neighboring countries remained the largest sources of visitors for the travel destination:
- Germany led with 2,347,163 guests, though this fell 1% from the prior year.
- Poland followed with 939,296 guests, an 11.9% rise.
- Slovakia contributed 931,856 guests, a 3.9% increase.
Established markets outside Europe, like the United States, Great Britain, and Italy performed well. Strong percentage gains came from distant countries. Israel grew by 33.4%, and the United Arab Emirates rose by 30%. Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Japan, Argentina, and China also saw increases. Better air connectivity also supported the growth.
František Reismüller, Director of CzechTourism, noted the importance of these figures. "2025 has shown that Czechia is a top European travel destination," he said. "We see strong interest from abroad and stable demand from domestic guests. We are pleased that the length of stay is increasing. Foreign guest nights are growing faster than arrivals. Almost 1.3 million overnight stays were added. The total is approaching 2019 levels."
Domestic tourism provided a strong foundation. About 12.6 million Czech residents stayed in accommodations. This was a 2.5% increase. They generated 32.4 million nights, which is up 2.0%. The average length of stay across all visitors was 3.5 days.
Shifting Preferences and Regional Spread
Traveler habits are changing the market. Foreign guests prefer higher-quality hotels. They choose longer visits over quick city breaks. Prague and Brno continue to dominate as urban centers, but interest is spreading to other areas. Regions outside the main hubs benefit from this shift. This aligns with CzechTourism's goal for sustainable, year-round, and balanced tourism.
Tourist numbers grew across all Czech regions. Olomouc, South Bohemia, and Liberec saw strong increases. Foreign visitor numbers fell only in the Pilsen region. Every other area saw gains.
A Bright Outlook for Czech Tourism
The 2025 results confirm the Czech Republic's appeal as a diverse travel destination. The country offers historic cities, natural scenery, and cultural heritage. It also features wellness and adventure options. Foreign overnight stays are near 2019 levels, and new markets are on the rise. The country is ready to keep this momentum. Experts emphasize that targeted marketing and better access drive this success. A focus on quality experiences also helps. This promises larger economic benefits and wider regional development in the coming years.
