Beijing saw a rebound in inbound tourism in 2025 when the China's capital welcomed a total of 5.48 million international visitors. This marks a 39% year-on-year increase.

Tourism spending grew even faster. It reached 50.56 billion yuan (about US$7 billion) which is up 44.7% compared to the previous year according to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism. They show a large expansion in visitor numbers and a rise in per-capita spending. Beijing appeals to more people as a high-quality cultural and historical destination and Beijing’s inbound tourism has been steadily growing.

Diversified Source Markets Fuel Rapid Growth

Beijing’s inbound tourism market varied and developed quickly in 2025. Foreign tourists totaled 4.557 million. This figure excludes visitors from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. It represents a 41.8% increase year-on-year.

The numbers by region reveal the top source market performers:

  • Asian tourists (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan): 2.013 million visitors, up 43%
  • European visitors: 1.562 million, with 47.9% growth
  • Tourists from the Americas: 641,000, up 35.6%

This growth across continents shows that Beijing attracts a balanced mix of global travelers. The city relies less on single markets now.

A City of Contrasts: History Meets Modernity
