Asian countries have been trying to establish themselves as ideal golfing destinations for many years now. Countries like Malaysia and Thailand are presenting their courses as the most luxurious around, but many investors now agree that Vietnam has seized the initiative to become the most popular destination for golf. This country has it all; friendly, welcoming people, strikingly rich culture, and breathtaking natural scenery which provides the ideal setting for new golf courses.

The tradition of this sport is quite new here, as golf was introduced only at the beginning of 1990. However, since many foreign companies have established their businesses in Vietnam, tourists from all over the world are coming here and the demand for golf has been on the rise.

Some great golfing opportunities are already attracting enthusiasts. The Ocean Dunes Golf Club is an outstanding natural site with sand dunes, sea breezes and spectacular sea views. In the Central Highlands, another popular golf club, the Da Lat Palace Club, has been established. Here, visitors not only get to play golf, but are welcome to enjoy romantic boat trips, or even orchard tours, where they can pick fruit while listening to local traditional music.

New projects are underway, such as the 740 hectares site at Ninh Binh which aims to establish a 54-hole golfing mecca. Another is to be constructed in the city of Hai Phong. This 27-hole golf course is expected to come into operation by the end of 2008. In the Mang Den ecotourism area of Kon Tum Province they are planning a 100 hectare site. The competition is likely to be fierce, though it will turn Vietnam into one of the world’s best golf destinations.
