The Ministry of Tourism in Venezuela has established rules governing foreign exchange transactions carried out by tourism service providers.

The regulation also sets out the requirements, mechanisms and procedures for issuing the "Certificate of Tourism Service Provider for Exchange Purposes." The providers are defined as persons engaged in accommodation services; travel and tourism agencies; and tourism transportation and inbound tourism in Venezuela.

The obligations to be met by service providers for the granting of this certificate include current national tourism registration, a valid tourism license or provisional credentials, operations in accordance with the activity, as well as the appropriate classification of the activity, up to date payment of the special tourism levy and discharging of the formal duties associated with tourism.

Tourism service providers can apply for the certificate on the website www.mintur.gob.ve.

Another feature included in that resolution is the Venezuelan Central Bank’s responsibility to supply the Tourism Ministry with a report of transactions carried out by tourism service providers each bank business day.
