North-western corner of Thailand hides a unique place ready to be discovered for any cave lover – the extensive network of caverns in Pang Mapha.

Finding a place to stay near the cave system is the first move that you have to make before exploring the underground. You can stay at the Cave Lodge which is just outside the Ban Tham Lod's village. The lodge gives you a very homey appearance and one with nature as well. The lodge is just a walking distance from the cave that makes it much more comfortable to stay. It is more preferred to use kayak for exploring the caverns and visitors can also hire a local tour guide.

Upon entering the caves you will be welcomed by a crocodile limestone statue that you can initially see. You just have to be careful since the cave is very slippery. The statue looks surreal; you will be shocked at its first glance. When you are inside the cave, you will be amazed by the stalagmites and the stalactites that you will be able to see at the center of the cave.

You should also not forget to explore the famous "spirit cave" when you will be able to see 1,700 year old coffins on wooden scaffoldings. It is believed that the spirits contribute to the history of those caves and as well as to the history of the place. The coffins tell so much about the culture of the Northern Thailand.
