Spanish hotels registered 20.3 million overnight stays in March, which entails 7.4% fewer than in the same month in 2016, according to data published by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

During the first three months of the year, overnight stays in Spanish hotels decreased by 2.8% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The year on year average decrease in March is owed to the reduction of 16.6% of overnight stays by residents of Spain and also to the setback, even though lesser, of the overnight stays for non-residents (-0.5%).

According to statistics, the average overnight stay was noted during the third month of the year as three nights per traveler, an amount 3.1% shorter than in March 2016.

During March, 51.8% of the sales offered were covered, with an annual decrease of 3.8%. The scale of occupancy during the weekend decreased by 3.1% and was placed at 59.3%.

The annual rate of hotel price index (IPH) was at 3.2% in March, half of a point less than last month, and 1.3 points below the rate registered a year ago.

The average bill for a registered room (ADR) in Spanish hotels was 78.3 euros, more than 4.3% compared to March 2016, and the revenue for each available room (RevPar), according to registration information, reached 47.6 euros, with an annual increase of 6.1%.
