MAURITIUS EXCEEDED THE TARGET OF 1 MILLION TOURISTS IN 2014

In 2014, tourist arrivals to Mauritius grew by 4.6% to 1,038,968 visitors against 993,106 tourists in 2013. France remains the source market leader but with a slight decrease of 0.4% over the entire year.

Indeed in 2014, the performance of France remained stable in terms of visitors as the number of French tourists went from 244,752 in 2013 to 243,665 in 2014, a slight decrease of 0.4%.

Arrivals from Europe to the island nation in the Indian Ocean, accounted for 54.9% of total arrivals, grew by 4.3% and reached 570,548 visitors. Among the major European source countries in terms of visits, after France, there follows UK (+17.7%), Germany (+ 2.8%) and Italy (-5.3%).

Over the entire year of 2014, the amount of tourists coming from Asia (+ 19.5%) and America (+ 6.9%, including +26.5% from the US) is rising, while the African market slightly decreased by -1.3% and Oceania by -3.6%.

Finally, over the month of December 2014, France tops the ranking with 30,115 arrivals followed by La Réunion (17,616), South Africa (15,081), Britain (10,599) and India (7444). From August to December 2014, France recorded a rise of +4.9%.
