The Croatian tourism industry achieved a record turnover in 2017. In the next few years it is expected to grow even more.

In 2016, the Croatian tourism turnover accounted to more than €10 billion, according to the ministry responsible. This number is a record and more than ever before.

Foreign tourists were responsible for the bulk of the transaction. They contributed €8.64 billion to the total turnover. Compared to 2015 this is an increase of 8.5%, as the data from the Croatian National Bank show.

Majority of Tourists from Abroad

Last year, almost 15.6 million tourists visited Croatia, 8.7% more than in 2015. Of these, 88% or 13.8 million came from abroad.

Most of the guests from abroad came from Germany (2.28 million or 16.5% of all foreign guests). Slovenia came in second (1.3 million and 9.4% respectively).

Enormous Investments in the Industry

The share of Croatian tourism in the GDP amounted to 18.9% in the previous year. That was 0.7 percentage points more than in 2015, as stated by the tourism ministry.

“The previous year’s results show that the Croatian economy is developing in the right direction,” said Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli. Croatia wants to increase the tourism revenues to 14 or 15 billion euros by 2020.
