New York has many attractions yet visiting it without seeing Central Park is a serious mistake. The park is a reputed highlight and has been welcoming visitors for over 150 years.

Central Park belongs to New York City’s most amazing landmarks. This fantastic piece of land features a diversity that never seizes to surprise. Culture and art lovers join sports enthusiasts, tourists and pick-nick lovers, families with children and nature fans. Central Park is a lively place full of energy and a fantastic atmosphere which always lures visitors to come.

The park opened in 1857 and only a year later, Frederick Law Olmsted along with Calvert Vaux won a design competition with what became known as the Greensward Plan. Already in 1963, the park was pronounced a National Historic Landmark and its profile has been rising ever since. Today, an incredible 35 million people visit the park each year; no wonder it is the most visited urban park in the entire United States.

The NYC Central Park may seem like a purely natural environment, yet in fact, it is almost entirely landscaped. The charming setting features several ponds and lakes, walking paths, two very popular ice-skating rinks as well as the Central Park Zoo. Local Conservatory Garden and wildlife sanctuary are yet another example of the genius behind the project.

Joggers, bikers or skaters adore local 10 km of drives, especially as there are no cars allowed here at weekends or in the evenings. What art lovers adore about Central Park are especially the summers, featuring “Shakespeare in the Park” festival at the Delacorte Theatre, the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre, not to forget the historic Carousel, which has won a great many hearts. Music festivals, concerts, and performances are also immensely popular and feature a colorful palette of genres.

Tours are available in many languages and the choice suits even the most demanding visitor. New York City would hardly be the same without its reputed Central Park.
