In the next ten years, 5,000 terminals will be built in already existent sea ports and 5,000 more in new locations which will be evenly distributed along the length of Croatia’s coastline, the Vjesnik daily newspaper wrote.
According to the publication, there are about 106,000 boats in Croatia, and in order to make the ports organized and secure more terminals, Croatian Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Božidar Kalmeta adopted regulations to define the mandatory split of ports into operational, communal and nautical sections for 42 regions and 191 ports.
As BalkanTravellers.com reported in March, Croatia expects to maintain its revenue levels from nautical tourism despite the recession. According to Tourism Minister Damir Bajs, the country earned 800 million euro from nautical tourism in 2008 and expects to earn two billion euro per year from it in the future. The construction of the new terminals in the next ten years is key to this plan.
